MILCOM Ministries

Mil/Com Ministries is an outreach of Great Bridge Community Church committed to sharing God’s love to the Military Community in Hampton Roads.

The ministry is led by Pastor to the Military, Mike Dingman. With the densest military population in the world, opportunities to interact with and minister to those in the military abound. However, the right to minister on military installations as a civilian is limited due to access requirements and regulations. Therefore, Mil/Com Ministries seeks to come alongside Chaplains to assist them in what they are already doing, rather than reinventing the wheel.  Many Chaplains are so busy with counseling and other duties that they often do not have the time they would like for personal ministry. This is where Mil/Com Ministries comes in.

The ministries main focus is currently at Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek in Virginia Beach, a Navy Amphibious Base, and has five main activities.

Coffee House Ministry

Coffee House

Sunday afternoons at 5 PM Soldiers, Sailors and Marines are invited to the Chapel Annex for a meal, fellowship, Worship and Bible study. Many of those who attend are students at the Army and Navy Schools of Music, and sometimes they even help lead our worship with their musical talent. These are important times for building relationships with service members and of sharing the gospel with them. Pastor Dingman is often invited to teach during these sessions.

Barracks Cookout and Bible Study

On Thursday afternoons at 5 PM during the Spring, Summer and Fall months a cookout is held in front of the barracks with Bible Study following. During the winter months the Bible Study is moved inside the Barracks Quarterdeck. Pizza or some other easy to serve food, soft drinks and bottled water are provided.

Good News Clubs

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays Pastor Dingman helps run Good News Clubs at Hermitage and Shelton Elementary Schools in Virginia Beach near JEB Little Creek, averaging about 70 children each week. Both schools have a heavy concentration of children from military families, and for many, this may be the only “church” experience they have all week.

Personal Discipleship

During the week Pastor Dingman meets with Soldiers, Sailors or Marines who are interested in individual Bible Study and accountability.
